Around Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Margate and Parkland, a lot of garages have stopped being garages. The car lives in the driveway and the garage holds old furniture, boxes from the last move, a broken treadmill and a pile of stuff nobody wants to deal with in this heat.
We're SoFlo Junk & Go, a local junk removal crew based in Pompano Beach. Garage cleanouts are one of the most common jobs we do. Here's how they work and how to make yours quick and painless.
What a garage cleanout actually is
You point, we haul. You tell us what's going, and we carry it out, load it and take it away. You don't have to drag anything to the curb or rent a dumpster.
Some people want the whole garage cleared. Others just want the big stuff gone so they can sort the rest themselves. Either way works.
What we usually haul out of garages
- Old furniture, mattresses and box springs
- Broken exercise equipment
- Old grills, patio furniture and umbrellas
- Boxes, bins and bags of household stuff
- Old shelving and cabinets
- Bikes, toys and kids' gear
- Leftover building materials from past projects
- Yard debris and old landscaping supplies
If it's non-hazardous, we can usually take it.
What we can't take
Garages are where paint cans, gas cans and pool chemicals tend to pile up, and those we can't haul. That includes paint, gas, chemicals and other hazardous materials the dumps won't accept. Set them aside before we arrive. Our post on what junk removal can't take explains how to get rid of them through the county.
What a garage cleanout costs
Junk removal is priced mostly by how much space your stuff takes up in the trailer, plus weight and dump fees. Jobs start at $150. A small pickup, like a couple of pieces of furniture or some bags and boxes, usually runs around $150 to $250. A full load in our 6x14 dump trailer has run about $650. A packed two-car garage can be more than one load.
The easiest way to know your number is to send us photos. We'll text you back a free quote before anything gets loaded. How junk removal pricing works goes into more detail.
How to get your garage ready
You don't have to do much, but a little prep saves time and money.
1. Take photos from the door. Stand in the driveway and get the whole garage in frame, then take a few closer shots of the big pieces and anything stacked deep. That gives us a good feel for how much there is.
2. Decide what's staying. Walk through and pull out anything you want to keep, or mark it clearly. Tape works. A good rule: if you haven't touched it since the last hurricane season, think hard about it.
3. Set aside donations. If something is in good shape and you'd rather donate it, set it aside so it doesn't end up in the load.
4. Pull out the hazardous stuff. Paint, gas, chemicals. Keep them separate so we don't have to sort through them on the day.
5. Check for anything valuable. Old garages hide things: tools you forgot about, paperwork, family photos. A quick look through boxes before we arrive can save a headache later.
6. Clear the driveway. Move the car out so we can back the trailer up close. Less walking means a faster job.

On cleanout day
We'll do a quick walk-through with you, confirm what's going and give you the price before we start. Then we get to work. Once the garage is empty, you'll have a clear floor to sweep and maybe even room for the car again.
If the garage is part of a bigger job, like clearing out a parent's home, take a look at our estate cleanout service.
